Electricity-Saving Tips for Your Fridge

Inside your home, the fridge is an appliance that consumes a huge part of your monthly electric bills. If you want to slash down your utilities cost, you should focus on cutting down your fridge’s electrical consumption. To do this, here are some electricity-saving tips for your fridge that you should follow.

The fridge should be installed about a foot away from any other electronic device. The back of the fridge should also be a foot apart from the wall. You must do these to allow air to circulate properly so that the fridge will not have a difficulty in getting the air it needs to cool its contents. If air is able to circulate freely around the fridge, it will not be forced to use up a lot of electricity to use in cooling.

Keep the fridge away from any heating device like a stove or an electric air pot. If the surroundings of the fridge are warm or hot, there is a greater tendency that it will try to cool off and waste electricity.

When the fridge is completely filled with ice, you should immediately defrost it. There are already high-tech fridges out there that are capable of setting a schedule when it will automatically defrost and it will automatically turn on. This will remove the burden from you of manually turning the fridge on and off as needed. An ice-covered fridge consumes more electricity that a fridge without ice layers.

It is also strongly recommended that you remove all the stuff that is laid on top of the fridge. These things add up in the effort of the fridge to cool its interiors thus, requiring more electricity.
